I first met Tom in early 2004 at umpire school - he was the giant who seemed to know exactly what he was doing, like he'd been a big leaguer in a past lifetime. I was...none of those things. Fast forward a couple of years and we spent half a season working together in the Florida State League, where he was still a giant who knew exactly what he was doing while I was still skinny and now sorta knew what I was doing (that's us pregame below in Jupiter in 2006). Jump ahead another decade-plus and both of us are long out of baseball, me doing the photo thing, Tom working for jetBlue. Along the way, he met Hannah, which led to my first ever Wednesday wedding at one of my favorite local venues a couple of weeks back. Using our advanced-umpire radar reading skills, we even managed to dodge the rain for a few outside images after their ceremony got moved indoors due to threat of thunder and microburst tornados.
